How to communicate more effectively by figuring out if a person’s primary representational system is visual.

 | Great leaders are great communicators. To be a great communicator you must be able to tailor your message for your audience. To do this effectively, you should deduce the dominant representational system of the target of your communication. If they are primarily visual, they pay the most attention to things that they see. For abstract concepts, they need to see charts and diagrams.
To know if someone is a visual communicator, listen to their speech. Visual people use pictures to represent their reality. They do not place great importance on words. As the pictures flash in their minds, they just blurt the words out. They tend to talk very fast in a disjointed manner. They tend to use visual words in their speech. They say things like “LOOK at this” or “I SEE”.
To communicate efficiently with a visual person, try to communicate big picture concepts. Do not worry so much about the structure of your words. Instead pay attention on getting concepts across quickly. Use diagrams and charts whenever possible. If you can, get the person to experience what you are talking about. If you need to teach something, have them do it.

| With visual people do not waste your time with words at all. Make sure you use pictures or movies or the real thing. Lectures by themselves will be useless. If you a doing a presentation make sure that your slides have no words at all this will just bore them.
