How to achieve the results you want without wasting time on trial and error
|
 | The difference between human beings is very small. All healthy adults fall within a small range of intelligence and ability. Success has been achieved by people of all sizes, shapes, and ages. If one person can accomplish something, it is very likely that a large number of people can accomplish similar results.
Many people have goals, but they are uncertain of how to achieve those goals. They go forward trying things, failing, and trying again. This is not futile as long as they are learning something as they go. If they truly learn from their mistakes and remain persistent, they will most certainly reach their goals. The problem with this trial and error method is that it takes time. There is a proven method that will allow you to reach your goals without wasting time on paths that may not take you to your desired end.
The most efficient way of accomplishing a goal is to choose a role model and duplicate their behavior. Map how they reached their goal. Now you have everything you need. You know what you want and you know how to get it!
Pick a role model. It can be someone you know. It can be someone famous. It can be someone who is long gone. It can even be a fictional character. Study how they achieved their goals. Find out as much as you can about the person. Study their mannerism. The way they dress. The way they talk. Copy everything they do.
Remember that the way you act on the outside effects the way you feel on the inside. If you copy how a person is on the outside, you will undoubtedly begin to share how they are on the inside. It may be something intangible that has given that person success. It may be a certain smile, or the way they make eye contact with someone when they talk. It may be how they treat their neighbors. It may even be how they move their eyes or hold their body.
Richard Bandler and John Grinder, the developers of NLP (Neuro-linguistic programming), profess this method of modeling human behavior to accomplish goals. They say that to duplicate excellence focus on three main attributes of your role model. First, look at that persons core beliefs about themselves and what is possible. What do they think is possible? Do they have great confidence in their abilities? Do they have great confidence in other people?
Second, look at how that person communicates. Are their sentences direct or do they tell colorful stories? Are they long winded? Do they like to talk or do they sit back and absorb information? Do they have a loud confident voice? Do they convey emotion in others when they speak?
Third, look at their physiology. How do they hold themselves? Do they have a strong, tall posture. How do they walk? Do they move quickly? Do they stumble around? Do they move with purpose? Look at their face. How do they move their eyes? Do they smile when they talk? Do they squint their eyes? Do they arch their eyebrows? How do they dress?
This method of using role models has been used successfully many times.
Take the four minute mile example. For thousands of years it was thought that it was physically impossible for a human being to run a mile in under four minutes. In 1954 Roger Bannister did it! Once this was achieved, others believed they could do it. They now had a new role model with a different belief system. This belief system allowed for the possibility of achieving an impossible goal! Now, the four minute mile is a common occurrence. People over 40 have done it. One man has run two miles in under 8 minutes.
The famous director, James Cameron, has a similar story about the effect of role models. In 1977 the movie Star Wars was released. No one had seen anything like it before. It was the most successful movie of its time. In the summer of 1977, James Cameron was driving trucks for living. When he saw Star Wars, he became depressed. It was the type of movie he wanted to make. He no longer thought it was impossible. He could follow the path of George Lucas and produce similar effects. He immediately quit his job and went on to direct Aliens, The Terminator, and Titanic. It is clear that James Cameron modeled George Lucas’s beliefs about what was possible and the methods to create the movies he wanted to make.
When you do achieve your goals remember to thank your role models! We truly build on the accomplishments of others!

| 4 | Be a Good Role Model |
| The power of role modeling cannot be questioned! We tend to be like the people we look up to. Because of this fact, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE A GOOD ROLE MODEL TO YOUR CHILDREN OR ANYONE ELSE YOU CARE ABOUT. They will see your behavior and copy it.

| 6 | I have never met a successful person that did not have a role model. |
| This is true. They all have a role model. Tiger has Jack Nicklaus. Jack Nicklaus had Arnold Palmer. Arnold Palmer had Ben Hogan.
Even the people in this article. I have hear George Lucas talk about the influence of Walt Disney.
This works.
