How to really learn advice and increase the likelihood that you will apply it yourself.

Teach it! When you have to teach an idea to someone else you have to think about it in an entirely different way. To get to the point where you can communicate an idea you have to really understand it. You have to articulate the idea and convert it from disjointed abstract thoughts and images in your brain to logical steps that can be communicated
If you have some information that you really want to learn and remember, teach them to other people. You could take each tip that you learn at SuccinctSuccess.com and you could teach them to your friends and family. This will allow you to get the most out of the advice and increase the likelihood that you will actually apply it.

Studies prove that information is stored in your brain as links between brain cells. The different combinations of cells make it possible to store an almost unlimited amount of information. But because of the vast amount of storage possible, your recall of a specific piece of information is limited if it is only stored in one way. If you really want to remember something, make sure that you store it in many different ways. You can store it visually by thinking about the information as it would work in real life. You can write the idea down. Say it out loud. Or, teach the idea to someone else. Teaching requires that you visualize the information, think about it from a different perspective, say it out loud and often write it down and repeat it. This adds up to five additional ways that the information is stored in your brain. This greatly enhances your recall and understanding of the information.

Also, when you teach something to someone, you are making a public statement. When we make public statements we want to honor them. It is a sociological principle that has helps us live in societies. When we say we will do something, we are much more likely to do it. When you teach you profess the information. You become linked with the information in the eyes of people in your social group. To be consistent you want to be in sync with that information. If you tell someone that they should work out every day. You do not want to seem hypocritical and it becomes more likely that you will work out every day.

Teaching also applies public pressure. When you teach you are responsible for other people. This added pressure gives you the motivation to prepare.

If you really want to apply a certain piece of advice, teach it to someone else!

1Give a Speech
Giving a speech is another great way to really learn something. I think it is the fear. It is a great motivator. I make sure that I am extra prepared so I really learn. I guess a speech is a form of teaching.
