| 9.6 | Goals Tip - Regularly Reevaluate Your Progress Toward Your Goals |
|
How to make sure you are on the right track toward accomplishing your goals by reevaluating your actions.
|
 | Think about your progress toward your goals in a scientific way. You must stop and evaluate what you are doing on a regular basis. If your actions are taking you closer to you goals, great! If not, you need to change what you are doing.
You have a goal. You have made a roadmap, a list of tasks you need to accomplish to meet your goals. You have broken these major tasks into small manageable tasks that you complete every day. You are taking consistent, DAILY, action toward your goals! Great! Good work! Reevaluation is the final key that keeps you on track.
Every week, look at the tasks you have accomplished. Take an honest look at your progress. Are you closer to your goals? If you keep taking the same actions, you can expect the same results. If your current actions are not taking you closer to your goals, you need different actions! Albert Einstein defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” If you are not getting the results you want, you need to do something different.
What can you do different? The best thing to do is to get new information. Find a book. Even better, find a mentor. Find someone who has accomplished a goal similar to yours and find out how they did it.
The path to your goal is like the path of a ship. There are things that can push you off track. The tide, the wind, or a captain that looses focus can all push a ship off course. The trick is to quickly get back on course. You have to be vigilant and notice when the ship is off path and adjust slightly. If you don’t adjust, you can get severely off course, even lost. Every week re-evaluate what you are doing. What have you learned? What should you do differently?
“In the absence of clearly-defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it. “ – Robert Heinlein
