How to accomplish your goals by picking friends who are as successful as you want to be.

 | Our friends make us who we are.
We rise (or sink) to level of our friends. We are social animals and this is a social phenomenon. We are programmed to want to be accepted in our social groups. We do not want to seem inferior or superior to our peers. This way we will not be shunned for being a drain on the group’s resources and we will not be shunned for being a stronger threat.
Sometimes, deep inside, we sabotage ourselves because we do not want to outshine our friends. We have a mistaken belief that if we are successful our friends will be jealous and stop liking us. This is a powerful belief. Make sure you use it in your favor.
Once we enter a peer group, the motivation to go to the common level is overwhelming. We will automatically work harder to keep up. You will find yourself working for the approval of your friends. To motivate yourself to achieve certain goals, make sure you choose friends that have already achieved those goals.
If you want to start a charity, find some people who have started a charity and take them to lunch. If you want to be a great investor, get together with some great investors. If you want to have a strong family, do some activities with other strong families.
We adopt the same interests as our peer group. If you want to be a great investor and you begin socializing with other great investors, it is very likely that you will talk about investing. You will also be more likely to participate in investment related activities. As you participate, you will learn about investing and how these successful people invest. You become an expert. You will rise to the level of your friends.
Remember that we are not alone. We do not have to figure everything out by ourselves. Get help from others. There are people out there with great knowledge. By getting help from them, we can achieve our goals much faster.

| Friends who pull you down are not friends. Friends can be rich and still pull you down ethically. Don't be around them.
