How to make exercise more fun and increase the likelihood that you will stick with it by making it a hobby or sport.



If you make exercise fun, you will be much more likely to continue in the long run. Pick a hobby or sport that requires exercise. Make it part of your identity. This is what you do in your spare time. When a hobby becomes part or your identity, you automatically want to do it more often. To live up to your image, you will find yourself doing the hobby more and more. Others will now expect you to be the expert in the field and you will not want to let them down.

Make a list of things you have always wanted to try. Have you wanted to try surfing? Even skateboarding? What about rock climbing. It is never too late to get involved in a sports league. Find out how to sign up for that basketball league at your gym. Become a runner. Become an expert hiker. Get into cycling, boxing or golfing (just try to walk the course instead of sit in the cart).

Once you pick your exercise hobby, become an expert. Get the journals and learn about the equipment. Find professionals in the area and learn about them. As you learn more and more, offer to teach others. Teaching by itself will make you learn more about the hobby. To live up to your image as the instructor, you will find yourself getting more and more involved in the hobby. You will also find yourself exercising outside of the hobby to improve your performance.

Having a major hobby also makes you a more interesting person. It becomes something you can be proud of. People will want to talk to you about it. It will increase your fitness and your confidence.

Boredom is the main reason why people stop exercise programs. If you can make exercise a fun hobby, you will stick with it.
