| 9.4 | Diet Tip - Have a Cup of Coffee |
|
How to reduce your risk of disease by drinking coffee.
|
 | Drinking caffeinated coffee can reduce your risk of diabetes, Parkinson’s Disease, cirrhosis and gallstones. Coffee has also been shown to improve your mood, help manage asthma, treat headaches and prevent cavities.
The caffeine in a cup of coffee is comparable to the amount in pain relievers like Anacin and Excedrin. If you have a head ache, the caffeine in a cup of coffee can give you temporary relief.
Coffee also contains a large amount of antioxidants. These antioxidants help your body regulate insulin levels. This is probably why coffee drinkers have a lower rate of diabetes.
Coffee also contains trigonelline. This compound gives coffee its unique smell and taste. Trigonelline has an antibacterial property that helps prevent dental cavities.
Coffee drinkers are 80% less likely to develop Parkinson’s Disease. Coffee drinkers also have a 25% less chance of developing colon cancer and an 80% less chance of cirrhosis.
Remember that pregnant women and heart patients should avoid coffee. No one should drink too much coffee. Excessive amounts of caffeine can interfere with your body’s ability to regulate your mood and your energy levels. Also be conscious of the sugar and fatty cream that you may be adding to your coffee.
