How to make people feel important and improve their performance by showing interest in their hobbies and activities.

Sometimes all that our employees, children, and spouses want is interest and approval. If you show interest and approval you will let them know that you are interested in them. They will know that you think they are interesting and important. They will be motivated to perform for your approval.

Think about where they put their effort. It may seem frivolous to you, but if they are putting effort in, it is important to them. Tell them that you are impressed with the effort. This could be your son’s skateboarding skills, your daughter ‘s social networking ability, your spouses success in their fantasy baseball league or your employee’s Star Trek collection. All of these things take effort and require incredible skill! Be impressed! Show pride! Really think about the skill required for the activity. Can you do a makeover on your friend? Take interest and ask how these things are done. If they have a passion for something, it is a passionate subject! All you have to do to get that same passion is to learn about the subject. Give approval and praise and your children and employees will be happy, they will like you and they will feel important!
