|
How to improve your health by getting rid of your television.
|
 |
Do you feel like you never have enough time? Get rid of that TV and get some. Most people watch up to 4 hours per day! That is 28 hours per week. That is 1456 per year. That would be over 100,000 for your life, but as you will find out, your life will be much shorter if you keep watching TV.
Do you feel like you don’t have enough energy? Watching television decreases your energy level. In the article, “TV, Are You Addicted”, researchers showed that people “crashed” after watching TV. This is very much like the crash a drug user experiences when coming down from a high. During this crash, energy levels and mood is much worse than before.
Do you want better health? A study by the American Heart Association showed that each hour of television correlates to a 9% increase in the chance of dying from cancer and an 18% increase in the chance of dying from heart disease.
Do you wish you were in better shape? The Center on Media and Child Health did a study on caloric intake while watching TV. People consumed up to 71% more calories when watching Television.
How is your sex life? A recent study shows that people had sex 50% less when the television was on. The health and welfare minister in India has proposed television as a method to control the population!
Do you wish you could kick nasty habits like smoking or over-eating? TV makes it harder. Watching TV puts your brain in a hypnotic state. During this state, your mind gives in to subconscious cravings (like eating, drinking or smoking).
If you just got rid of that television, you would have more time, energy, better health, a better attitude and a better sex life!
So how do you get rid of TV? It is very addictive and is not an easy habit to kick. Here are some tips to help.
1.Get rid of it. Sell it and never look back. If going cold turkey works for you, try it on your television.
2.Only watch DVDs. Disconnect your cable. By watching videos, you are forced to make a conscious decision about what you watch. When the movie is over, you have a sense of completion and it will be easier to get up.
3.Use your computer to watch shows. By only watching TV on your computer, you will find that you do other things while you are watching. This will make it harder for you to fall into the TV trance.
4.Shut off your TV with a timer. Most televisions have built in timers. The shutoff will break your trance and make you think about what you are doing.
5.Get rid of the remote. This big problem is getting up once you are sitting down and watching TV. Of you have to get up to change the channel, this problem is solved.
I threw my TV out almost 13 years ago (when my team, the Utah Jazz, lost to the Bulls in ’98). I still get the urge from time to time. My problem is hotel rooms. I find myself watching through the night. The next morning I feel literally sick and ashamed when I think of the things I could have done instead.
You will find yourself being much more productive once the TV is gone. I am now an avid reader. Now I expand my brain every day instead of slowing going brain dead in front of the television.
Please contact me if you think I can help in any way.
Good luck!
