How to increase your energy, improve your health and feel more relaxed by taking deep abdominal breaths.

Deep, abdominal breathing is great for you! Abdominal breathing requires that you extend your stomach to allow your diaphragm to pull a full breath of air. As you start to breath abdominally, your endurance will improve, your ability to fight disease will improve, your blood flow will improve, your lymph flow will improve, your resistance to infection will improve, you will be happier, your thoughts will be clearer and you will feel more relaxed!

To train yourself to breathe abdominally, try this exercise at least 3 times a day:

1. Stand up straight in a comfortable position with your shoulders back and head high.
2. Take a deep breath through your nose and at the same time pull your shoulders back about two inches and let your stomach extend outward.
3. Try to hold your deep breath for 7 seconds (This should never be uncomfortable. If you feel dizzy or sick, stop immediately and hold your breathe for fewer seconds next time.)
4. Exhale slowly out of your mouth for another 7 seconds. At the same time, suck your stomach in and let your shoulders move forward until you have exhaled completely. Try to push every bit of air out of your lungs.
5. Repeat this sequence for a total of 5 breaths.

After you complete this exercise you may actually feel the improved circulation in your hands and your face. You will feel calmer and you will have more energy throughout the day.

Most people breathe from their chest. This “shallow” type breathing is not the most beneficial for your health. As a result, blood and lymph circulation suffers. Toxins in our bodies are not removed at an efficient rate. Digestion can become irregular and the cells of your body are not provided the nourishment they need. This will eventually lead to stress, fatigue and even an increased chance of contracting diseases and infections.

Because deep abdominal breathing is so effective at combating stress, whenever you feel anxious, do the deep breathing exercise. You will instantly feel better!

Stress actually causes short, shallow breaths. If you ever feel like this is happening to you. Slow down and take a deep breath. This will tell your body that the stress cycle is over. You will feel more relaxed.

Deep abdominal breaths have been shown to release endorphins. When you are being distracted by minor aches and pains, try the deep breathing exercise. This will help you focus.
