How to instantly eliminate stress and make yourself feel happy by cleaning up your house.

 | Having a messing house contributes greatly to the stress in your life. Studies show that cluttered houses can cause stress, weight gain and increase the rate of illness. The good news is that once you house is clean, you instantly feel better!
When you are surrounded by a mess, the hormone cortisol is released into your system. This is a stress causing hormone that can speed up aging and increase your chances for heart disease. When you clean the mess, endorphins are released. This makes you feel great!
A messy house has many negative affects on your life:
1. When your house is a mess, you are ashamed of it. When the clutter is gone, you feel better about inviting people in. Your social life improves wich is great for helping stress and depression. You also feel more open in a clean house. You feel free to open the windows and let the sun in.
2. In a cluttered home, it is difficult to do stress eliminating activities. How can you work out, when the floor is covered with junk? How can you work on your hobby if it is burried in clutter?
3. Clutter drains your time and energy. In a messy house, people waste extra time looking for lost items. If you spend 5 minutes looking for just your keys, wallet, shoes, documents, phone and purse, this adds up to 30 minutes a day of your valuable time! Studies show that a messy workplace and home can cause chronic lateness.
4. The mess can actually be dangerous! You can step on things. You can trip on things. Loose tools or scissors can be hidden in the clutter. These things can be dangerous for you and any children in the house.
5. A messy house can affect your health. It causes headaches, fatigue, sinus problems, allergies, and increases your chances of getting sick.
6. A dirty kitchen makes it difficult to eat healthy. When the pots and pans are dirty, you cannot make good food. You end up eating fast food or grabbing a high-carb snack from the cupboard.
7. A messy house can cost you money! Bills and financial documents can get lost in the mess! The result is late fees and other penalties that you could have avoided. You also end up buying duplicate items that you cannot find in the clutter.
You realize that your messy house is affecting your health. What can you do?
Try cleaning for 20 minutes a day. If your home is a disaster, just focus on one area. Get it clean and then make it a priority to keep that area clean. It may just be the kitchen table! The next day, move to a different area.
Get help. Get a cleaning service or an organizing service. You have to put away clutter before the cleaning service can help. If they come on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, you are forced to de-clutter before they get there. This is a great motivator.
Have a small table with a bowl by the door you use to come in the house. Leave your keys, phone and wallet or purse here. You can also have coat hooks or hangers here. This way, you keep your things here and do not leave them around the house. From now on you will know where your keys are!
Set up some rules for yourself and your family. Clean up right after you make a mess. When you do this, smile! Let yourself feel good for keeping the house clean!

| It makes me feel so much better when my car is clean. When I am driving down the road in a dirty car I think there is a little bit of shame. When it is clean, I feel great!
