| 9.3 | Leadership Tip - Figure Out if the Target of Your Communication uses an Auditory Representational System. |
|
How to communicate more effectively by figuring out if a person’s primary representational system is auditory.
|
 | To communicate in the most efficient way, you must know the primary representation of the person you are communicating with. If they are primarily auditory, they pay the most attention to things that they hear.
If you need to communicate a message to these types of people, you will have to use words and it will be best if you talk directly to them. You should talk slower and use an even tempo. Use sound metaphors in your speech. Say things like “How does that SOUND?” or “Your shirt is very LOUD”.
To know if someone is an auditory communicator. Listen to their speech. Auditory people will normally talk slower and more rhythmically. They will learn things best by listening to lectures (ask them how they learn best). They are very purposeful about each word they use. Their speech will contain auditory type words. Listen for phrases like “I HEAR that!” or “That car was SREAMING down the road”.
